Who they are
Crucell was a Dutch biopharmaceutical company established in 1993 as a spin-out from Leiden University. It focused on the research, development, production, and marketing of vaccines, proteins, and antibodies to combat infectious diseases. Crucell expanded its operations and market presence through strategic acquisitions of other vaccine specialists, including Switzerland's Berna Biotech and Sweden's SBL Vaccin. After going public in 2000 with venture capital backing, Crucell was acquired by Johnson & Johnson in 2011 for $2.4 billion, subsequently becoming Janssen Vaccines. The company significantly grew its workforce and contributed to global health initiatives, notably in vaccine development.
