Dutch fintech in 2026: AI dominates, funding flows and fraud professionalises

The Dutch fintech sector is growing steadily. In 2025 its market size amounted to approximately $2.7 billion, with more than 860 companies active across a range of segments, from payments infrastructure to compliance automation. The combined valuation of Dutch fintechs stands at €14.2 billion in 2026. Fintech investment rose by around 24 per cent in 2025 compared with the previous year, to more than €1.8 billion.

Virtually all of this growth shares a common denominator: artificial intelligence. Whether in fraud detection, credit risk assessment, compliance or financial administration, AI is woven into the product offering of almost every new player. At the same time, pressure from Brussels is intensifying, with regulation such as PSD3, DORA and expanded anti-money-laundering rules creating a market for regtech players while raising the bar for smaller parties.

Fraud and risk: the busiest segment

No theme is as prominent in the Dutch fintech scene in 2026 as fraud prevention. Three companies based in Amsterdam and Utrecht serve this segment, each from a different angle.

FRISS, founded in 2006 and headquartered in Utrecht, focuses on fraud detection for property and casualty insurers. In January 2026 the company closed a Series B round of $65 million, led by Accel-KKR. At the same time, FRISS opened offices in Santiago de Chile and Germany and published its annual fraud report, which finds that fraud is increasingly splitting into two forms: large-scale opportunistic fraud on one side, and organised, AI-driven fraud on the other. Total funding now stands at €59.4 million.

ThreatFabric, active since 2015, monitors online banking environments for around 60 million customers. The company raised a seed round of €11.5 million in 2024 and was in the news on multiple occasions in 2026 with research into new Android malware variants such as Manic and Perseus. Chartis Research named it a RiskTech100 Disruptor for 2027.

Fraudio, founded in 2020, applies AI to fraud detection and anti-money laundering across the full payments ecosystem. With €2.1 million in seed funding it is still at an early stage, but it is tapping into the same growing demand for automated detection.

Payments infrastructure attracts large capital flows

Silverflow is one of the most visible growth companies in Dutch fintech in 2026. The Amsterdam-based company offers acquirers and merchants payments infrastructure via a single API and closed a Series B of $40 million on 5 March 2026, led by Picus Capital with participation from Rabo Investments. The total funding counter now stands at €70.5 million.

The figures illustrate the scale at which Silverflow now operates: it processes nearly one billion transactions per year and is accelerating towards $100 billion annually. In 2026 the company moved to a new Amsterdam headquarters, grew its headcount by more than 20 per cent and entered into a partnership with Hypergate for integrated payment solutions. CEO Anne Willem de Vries also brought in the first US customers.

Silverflow's growth shows that infrastructure for payment processing, a segment long dominated by established players such as Worldline and Adyen, has room for specialised newcomers that prioritise speed and flexibility over legacy systems.

Compliance and onboarding as a growth segment

Growing European regulatory pressure is making compliance automation an attractive segment. Duna, founded in 2023 and active in Amsterdam, is building an AI platform for corporate onboarding and compliance. With €40 million in Series A funding it is one of the best-funded young players in the sector, although no current operational figures are publicly available.

Owlin, active since 2012, continuously monitors supplier and counterparty risks for financial institutions. The company raised a Series A of €3.8 million in 2020 and operates in a segment that remains relevant as long as financial institutions are required to screen their relationships on an ongoing basis.

AdviceRobo, also based in The Hague, combines behavioural science and data to improve credit decisions. The company has been in operation since 2013 and raised €6.4 million in a Series A in 2018. Recent developments have not been publicly documented, but its focus on data-driven credit assessment aligns with broader trends in the sector.

Administration and accounting: a new playing field for AI

Two relatively young companies are targeting financial administration for entrepreneurs and accounting teams.

Neno, founded in 2025 and based in Amsterdam, automates administrative tasks for entrepreneurs. The company launched in the Netherlands in the first quarter of 2026 and grew to nearly 200 customers in a short space of time, with a reported monthly revenue growth rate of 60 per cent. On 25 August 2026 it closed a seed round of €6.6 million, led by AlleyCorp with support from Motive Partners and Firstminute Capital. Among the angel investors are individuals with backgrounds at Mollie, PayPal, Deel and Coinbase.

Stacks, founded in 2024, focuses on automating the monthly financial close for accounting teams and raised €10 million in a seed round in early 2025. In 2026 it organised the Stacks Summit in London, themed around AI in finance and questions of data trust and auditing. The company is also moving towards Bitcoin-native financing, with integrations via Anchorage Digital and plans for multichain expansion in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Challenges: cyber threats, regulation and scalability

The sector faces a paradox: the same AI technology that companies such as FRISS, ThreatFabric and Fraudio deploy to combat fraud also makes attacks faster, cheaper and harder to detect. ThreatFabric documented multiple new malware variants targeting mobile banking applications in 2026.

Regulatory pressure is also increasing. DORA, the Digital Operational Resilience Act, requires financial institutions and their suppliers to meet higher standards around cybersecurity and operational resilience. PSD3 and expanded open banking requirements call for adjustments in product architecture and data policy. For smaller players, such as Finturi with €2 million in funding or Owlin with €3.8 million, the compliance burden can weigh more heavily than it does for better-funded competitors.

97 per cent of Dutch people now pay digitally, with an expected transaction value of more than €110 billion. This makes the Netherlands one of the most digitalised payments markets in Europe, which creates opportunities but also means the market for basic services such as contactless payments is largely saturated. Growth lies in the layers above: risk management, compliance, customer analytics and infrastructure optimisation.

For the broader European AI and fintech scene, the Dutch example is instructive. A relatively small country with an open financial culture, a solid regulatory framework through DNB and a well-developed ecosystem of investors and tech talent proves to be fertile ground for specialised B2B players. The question for the years ahead is whether that specialisation can also generate scale outside Europe, something FRISS and Silverflow are already cautiously beginning to explore.
