Sixty-six Dutch startups are working on money and finance, from insurance fraud to EV charging

Sixty-six Dutch startups have money and finance as their core mission, yet by no means all of them can be described as fintech. They operate across highly diverse sectors: from healthcare automation to charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. What connects them is a drive to streamline financial processes, often with the help of AI.

Most attention goes to companies directly involved in payments, insurance or compliance. But a growing share is embedding financial mechanisms into domains that, at first glance, have little to do with finance. Taken together, they illustrate how broad the concept of 'fintech' has become within the Dutch ecosystem.

Compliance and fraud as a core market

Compliance is costly for financial institutions, which makes it attractive territory for startups looking to automate that process. Two Amsterdam-based startups focus on precisely that part of the work.

Duna, founded in 2023, is building an AI platform for business onboarding and compliance automation. The company raised a Series A round of €40 million. FRISS, active since 2006 and therefore one of the older names in this overview, automates fraud detection for non-life insurers worldwide. In 2024 it closed a Series B of €59.4 million.

ThreatFabric addresses an adjacent problem: it detects fraud and malware in online banking and claims to reach 60 million end users. The Amsterdam-based company raised a seed round of €11.5 million in 2024. These three share something in common: they use AI to identify risks that human analysts struggle to keep up with at scale.

Payment infrastructure in the background

Silverflow is working on modern payment infrastructure, offering a single integrated API for acquirers and merchants. The Amsterdam-based company, founded in 2019, closed a Series B of €70.5 million. They form the foundation on which other fintechs build, even though infrastructure players tend to attract less public attention than consumer-facing apps.

Stacks takes on the other side of financial administration: it automates the monthly financial close for accounting teams. The company was founded in 2024 and had already raised a seed round of €10 million by January 2025, signalling early investor interest in this segment of finance automation.

Investing and customer value through algorithms

BOTS Capital, based in Haarlem, gives retail investors access to automated investment strategies via algorithms. The company, founded in 2017, raised a Series A of €30 million. Flytxt, headquartered in Nieuwegein and founded in 2008, offers an AI platform focused on customer value management, specifically for telecoms and financial services providers. It closed a Series B of €15 million in 2022.

Both companies serve a market where data and financial decision-making converge: one on the side of the individual investor, the other serving large institutions looking to optimise their customer relationships.

Financial mechanisms outside the financial sector

Some of the 66 startups are embedding financial mechanisms into other domains. Deftpower, based in Arnhem and founded in 2020, is building a smart charging platform for EV drivers and charge point operators. In January 2025 it raised €12.5 million in a growth round. The financial layer lies in the settlement of charging sessions and the management of energy costs, a problem that grows more complex as more electric vehicles connect to the grid.

Kaiko, an Amsterdam-based AI company active in healthcare, supports clinicians in clinical workflows. It had already raised €82.5 million in a Series B back in 2022. The financial mission here lies in reducing administrative costs in healthcare, a sector where inefficiency directly weighs on budgets.

Monumental, from Amsterdam, builds robots that install facades and structures on-site. With €25 million in Series A funding in 2024, it targets the construction industry, where labour costs are a dominant expense. The proptech angle therefore has a direct financial dimension.

What these startups have in common

Of the twelve companies in this overview, eight are formally categorised as fintech. The remaining four operate in energy, healthcare, proptech or media, but their products connect to financial flows or cost structures. This shows that the boundary between fintech and other sectors is blurring, not because fintech is absorbing everything, but because AI makes it easier to automate financial processes in any domain.

Funding rounds vary considerably: from a €10 million seed for Stacks to a €82.5 million Series B for Kaiko. The pace also differs: Stacks and Deftpower had already closed a round in 2025, while BOTS Capital and Silverflow completed larger rounds earlier without any publicly known new round since. Amsterdam dominates geographically, with Utrecht, Arnhem, Nieuwegein and Haarlem as smaller clusters.

For investors and policymakers mapping the Dutch AI ecosystem, this overview illustrates that financially oriented AI applications are not confined to traditional fintech players. Those who look only at the 'financial services' sector will miss a portion of what is being built.
