What you'll learn

  • You learn what sets GPT Image 2.5 apart from Image 2, especially in intelligence and conversational editing.
  • You see how the two versions, Flare (fast) and Sunburst (heavy, for precise edits), differ and which one you are likely getting in ChatGPT and Codex.
  • You discover that OpenAI reduced the noise compared to Image 2, but that this pattern has not fully disappeared.
  • You learn that GPT-6 Astra acts as the brain for tasks such as research and applying specific film color grades to images.
  • You see that native output in ChatGPT and Codex comes in at 1672x941, so you should plan on an upscale.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the two versions of GPT Image 2.5, Flare and Sunburst?
According to the creator there are two versions available: Flare is the fast version and Sunburst is the heavy version meant for precise edits. The creator suspects that ChatGPT and Codex run the Flare version.
Did GPT Image 2.5 completely solve the noise issue from Image 2?
No. The creator states that the noise pattern is reduced compared to Image 2, but that it has not fully disappeared. The grain pattern also surfaced again in the Fury Road stills.
What does the creator consider the biggest strength of GPT Image 2.5?
The creator states that OpenAI especially succeeded in intelligence and conversational editing, strengthened by GPT-6 Astra as the brain. Examples include the '12 years later' edit and research applications such as finding the real actors for GTA VI screenshots.
What native resolution did the creator get for output in ChatGPT and Codex?
Native output in ChatGPT and Codex came in at 1672x941 pixels. That is why the creator advises planning on an upscale of the generated images.

Description from the channel

OpenAI dropped GPT Image 2.5 (ChatGPT Images 2.5) — and honestly? It's the 0.5 update. A few of Image 2's nagging issues are better (that noise pattern is reduced, not gone), but what OpenAI really nailed here is intelligence and conversational editing — and with GPT-6 Astra on board as the brain, that's the real winner. In this one: the standard tests (our man in the blue business suit, the wine glass at 5:15, the pelican on a bicycle — and all three at once, where it starts to break down), the drunken wine-glass edit, a "12 years later" edit that hit harder than expected, Astra researching who I am for a Times Square takeover ("Welcome to Tim Square"), the mirror test with Flamethrower Girl, the 4-angle grid method (better than Nano Banana 2 and Nano Banana Pro, in my opinion), a Tales from the Loop 2x2, a War of the Worlds color grade, turning Rockstar's GTA VI screenshots into photographs of the actual actors that were never taken, Fury Road film stills and why you'll have to argue with it, Flare vs Sunburst at max quality on fal, and why Astra just replaced Fable 5.1 as my daily driver (I remade The Bridge in a day). The specs: two versions — Flare (fast) and Sunburst (the heavy one, for precise edits). Available to all ChatGPT and Codex users, and in the API at the same price as GPT Image 2. OpenAI doesn't say which one ChatGPT and Codex run — my guess is Flare. Native output in ChatGPT/Codex came in at 1672×941 for me, so plan on an upscale.
